I think I personally battle with white (negative) space. So how can I help my students tackle this concept?
The use of negative space is an essential design element. You need to be able to recognize the use of negative space if you want to really impact your students’ perception of the world.
This is an excellent opportunity to utilize Dan Pink’s suggestion of maintaining a “design journal”. Basically you carry around a notepad, or your I-Phone if you are lucky enough, and take notes on designs that you see.
After reading Francisco Inchauste’s article, I am making a concentrated effort to look for the design elements that are mentioned, specifically the use of negative space.
