In case you had not heard, Dan Pink’s New book Drive has arrived at bookstores.
I have just started to read the book and I have found it fascinating, of course. Basically he has researched the science of motivation and has found some incredibly useful information for all of us.
As educators who are striving to prepare students for a right-brain world, “Motivation 3.0″ is the only way to foster creativity amongst our students.
Of course we will need to explore methods for creating this “upgraded” school environment within the confines of our educational system. Some of his ideas can be downright scary to a traditional educator.
I encourage every teacher to read Drive: The Surprising Truth Abou What Motivates Us, and think of ways that we can harness this approach to motivation. If we plan on enhancing the right-brain aptitudes from AWNM in our classroom, we need to create an environment similar to the one that Dan Pink describes in Drive. The challenge will be how to do it within the unique setup of the public education system.
I’ll keep reading and hopefully many more teachers will join me!Share
