YouTube – Let Children Create.m4v

I found this clip when I was thinking about content creation.  People today, young and old, are used to creating content.  Wikis, online collaboration, social media, Twitter, the list goes on and on.  But people are creating the content.

So in education, how do we incorporate that?  It’s a pretty scary thought for myself and I’m sure most teachers.  I know I’ve said this before “Students shouldn’t be ‘creating’ content about history.”

But I have to “waffle” a bit now.  Why not let them create historical fiction?  It would immerse them in the content.  AND it would help them to learn the Story and Empathy aptitudes in A Whole New Mind.  And if you think about it, they would understand how to create Meaning, while appreciating the aptitude of Play.

Students should create content.  We all should.  There is nothing more satisfying than creating something original.  I always enjoyed writing papers, as they gave me this sense of creating content.  So even way beck when, students were creating content.

Watch the video.  It’s definitely worth the two minutes.
